Internet poker and the law:

Internet gambling including sports betting, casino games, bingo and poker, has a lot a mystery surrounding the legal of it. The Secur and Accountabil For Every Port Act of 2006 was passed as an act of congress. This act covered port secur and even though it has nothing to do with port secur, an online gambling measure was added. Our elected representatives in the House and Senate couldn't vote against the measure as it would be a vote against port secur.
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was passed at midnight on the day Congress adjourned for the 2006 elections. On the other side World Trade Organization has argued that the US is violating treaty obligations. There is currently new bills on both sides of this to enforce the law and to repeal it. Many states have enacted their laws outlawing online gambling. Some of the same states have casino's, lottery, horse tracks, but are afraid of losing revenue to the internet.
I can drive down the road and throw my money out the window, but I can't not play casino games on the internet. There is a petition that you can sign that is being sent to Washington. http://www.gamblingpetition.com/.
Digging a little deeper the current law does not make it illegal for a person to gamble on the internet but illegal for banks to fund or accept payments from gambling sites. This goes back to the wire act from the 1960's which made it illegal to place wagers over the phone.
I am no legal author by any means. I have been gambling online and have no problem with it.
