Protecting Yourself From Cheats:

A card player who is a professional at the same time will surely know a few ways by which he can be cheated at online poker, but one for whom gambling is just recreation might not be aware of them. This, of course, does not mean that a recreational player is incapable of cheating - it is just that he might not know the techniques of cheating.

Awareness

For all card players and gamblers, cheating is a highly controversial issue. One will be surely amazed to see the ignorance that is associated with cheating. This ignorance is perhaps the only reason why cheating in cards and gambling has withstood the test of time. There is another thing that has to be borne in mind that is that cheating can never be eliminated but it is only the risks that can be minimized to a certain extent and there is hardly any thing more to it than just this. All those who play cards are liable to get cheated and this is irrespective of the amount of experience, knowledge and skill that one has. It is not possible to always remain alert, and often the best of players gets cheated by the simplest of tricks in the casino bonus.

Some Safety Measures

Here are some of the safety procedures that should be kept in mind to protect yourself from cheats.

You should follow only those shuffling procedures that are secure- everyone in the group should be given a chance to shuffle the cards and then the same procedure should be carried on by the winner of the last round.
The dealing procedures should be secure- even if the cut card is used it is still advisable to request everyone to keep the deck on the able at all times.
Following the secure procedures for cutting- it is best to use a face up Joker or a cut card. If any of these are not available then it is best to use the advertising cards.
There should at least be two decks with the backs being in contrasting patterns- when the card backs are different it is difficult for the cheat to hold out a card.
The deck-on-the-table-rule should be enforced as this ensures that the cheat is not being able to take any liberties. All the shuffling should be done on the table itself.
Check both the box and the cards- this should be kept in mind especially when you are playing for money. All players have the right to check not only the cards but also the package so that any tampering with it can be checked.
There is no need to put unnecessary objects on the table as these are often used to cheat the players.
Hands should be on the table - this is quite a difficult rule to enforce but is necessary nonetheless.
Positions of the players are to be rotated and careful attention should be paid to the score sheet and the pot where the money is being accumulated.
Crimps should be eliminated, cards should be counted and players should never be allowed to play out of their turns.

These are some of the steps that you should take so that you do not get cheated in any card game.
