Poker Games Online:

People all over the world play poker. Whether it's for pennies or pounds, matchsticks or lollypop sticks. Online or offline, with friends or with strangers, the game of poker is enjoyed by millions.

Depending on where you play in the world, the game people call 'poker' can vary quite considerably. There are many variations of poker that are played, a lot of which are variations of a game (and even variations of variations). However, the main 8 poker games are:

Texas Hold 'Em - the most popular and regularly played poker game around the world. Often played more online than in casinos, Texas Hold 'Em is probably the easiest type of poker to play, making it ideal for first timers. Each player is dealt two cards, face down. Rounds of betting then take place, with 5 group cards being laid in between each round of betting (three cards, then one, then one). The winner is the player who has the highest scoring poker hand, mixing their own two private cards with any of the five group cards.

Omaha Hi - often cited as second only to Texas Hold 'Em, Omaha Hi is another popular poker game amongst both new poker players and professionals alike. The idea behind Omaha Hi is for each player, in between the four rounds of betting, to create the highest scoring poker hand out of the four cards each individual player is dealt face down, along with the five cards that are dealt to the group.
Omaha Hi-Low - the most popular variation of the above Omaha Hi. The main difference of Omaha Hi-Low and regular Omaha-Hi is that there are two winners for every pot. With a winner for both the highest and lowest hand, the general rules of the game are somewhat difficult to follow, making it a game for the expert poker players around the world.
Omaha 8 or better - a variation of Omaha Hi-Low, the only difference is that the winner with the low hand can't have any card above an 8 in their hand.
Seven Card Stud - what was once the poker game to play, Seven Card Stud has been somewhat demoted down the ranks of popularity, particularly online. Seven Card Stud is played with each player having two cards dealt face down and another face up. After these cards have been laid and betting has taken place, another face up card is dealt to each player, which is then repeated twice. The last remaining card is dealt face down and the winner is decided by who has the best five card hand.
Seven Card Stud 8 or better - exactly the same principal as Omaha Hi-Low, Seven Card Stud 8 or better provides the opportunity for two winners - one with the low hand and one with the high hand.
Five Card Draw - the final poker game, Five Card Stud, is probably the most famous, as when poker is played in films, it is generally Five Card Stud. After each player receives their first five face down cards, a round of better takes place followed by the players choosing whether they would like to discard one of their cards or not. Two rounds of betting take place after this, with the winning being decided by the one who has the highest scoring five card hand.
